Intercoiffure America Canada’s regional events, hosted by ICA members, offer a unique, in-depth look at some of the most successful salons in the country.

“The Owners’ Regionals are an incredible opportunity for our members to connect, share best practices, and learn from one another”, says ICA President Scott Buchanan. “It’s an intimate gathering where we collaborate, exchange ideas, and grow together.

This spring, Bruce and Teresa McGaha, owners of Moutons Salon in Grapevine, Texas, will host ICA members May 3-5 for a weekend of inspiration.

A Warm Texas Welcome

On Saturday, May 3, the McGahas will kick off the event with an evening of wine and cheese at the salon. Attendees will meet the Moutons team, receive their swag bags and gear up for two days of learning and networking.

“Our salon is just six minutes from the airport, so it’s very convenient,” Bruce says. “Grapevine is one of the most visited cities in Texas, and full of charm.”

Moutons, Revealed

Moutons

Veteran salon owners, the McGahas have been in business for 37 years, and have learned many best practices in their decades of ownership, including a little bit about real estate.

“We own our building, which is something we’ll talk about on day one,” Bruce says. “Many owners rent, so we feel it’s valuable to share the real cost of owning versus renting and how we were able to purchase our property.”

As a prominent member of the Grapevine business community, the McGahas have lined up speakers to share the importance of the salon’s role in local events and how to foster community growth

“I also have a friend who’s a buyer who will speak about the future of the beauty industry, sharing how manufacturers are thinking about products and services,” Bruce adds.

As always, there will be plenty of time in the afternoon for owners to network and dive deeper into the topics presented at round tables in the afternoon, and a dinner hosted by Oribe in the evening.

Back to School

On day two, attendees will experience something totally unique—a trip back to high school.

“We have one of the largest school districts in the nation, and many of our schools are engaged with trades,” says Bruce. “We work closely with a nearby school, recruiting many students to work in the salon.”

A school bus will take ICA members to the high school where they’ll learn how the program works and how it differs from a professional school.

After a boxed lunch provided by the high school’s hospitality program, attendees will hop back on the bus for a tour of Moutons’ past locations.

“We only have one location now, but we’ve had others over the years, and feel it’s valuable to share how and why we opened and closed them,” Bruce says. “Ours is a story of resilience, and our experiences have prepared us for anything—including the pandemic.”

The event will wrap up with a trip to a local wine shop, where members will have the opportunity to discuss all they learned over the weekend.

“Every time I attend a regional event, I leave with a notebook full of actionable insights to elevate my business, and a heart full of love for this industry and the amazing people I meet,” says Buchanan.
