April 27, 2011MIAMI: Giving back was on the agenda at ICA’s Spring Symposium, held April 17-18 at Miami’s historic Fontainebleau resort. ICA members in attendance enthusiastically supported the research work of City of Hope by donating $17,715 through an education auction and member donations.
HairDesignerTV, Joico and Repechage generously donated educational workshops for the auction. In addition, Launchpad and DAYSPA magazines each donated an editorial feature story to the auction. Deborah Carver, publisher of Launchpad and DAYSPA and ICA specialty member, coordinated the fundraising effort, and master of ceremonies Geno Stampora served as auctioneer with his usual verve.
“I’d like to thank Vivienne Mackinder of HairDesignerTV (hairdesignertv.com), Sara Jones of Joico (Joico.com), who donated classes with Joico artists Sue Pemberton and Damien Carney, and Lydia Sarfati of Repechage (repechage.com),” says Carver. “They instantly agreed to support the auction by giving away some of the best educational opportunities in the industry.”
And then there are the members of ICA, all successful salon owners. “Part of ICA’s philosophy is social commitment,” notes president Lois Christie. “As salon owners, we lead fundraising and social programs in our local communities, and as ICA members we support national and international causes such as City of Hope, Haiti Relief Fund and Habitat for Humanity.”
