Fall Atelier’s All-Female Cutting Crew
August 22, 2024The Lasting Legacy of ICA’s Sheila Wilson and Anna Pacitto
October 23, 2024Intercoiffure America Canada members attending Fall Atelier September 29-30 in New York City can expect a lineup of innovative, talented educators and presenters to address the challenges they face in the salon and creative solutions to overcome them in all areas of the business.
This year’s highly anticipated Color Collaboration features three experienced master colorists who know a little something about overcoming challenges.
Lisa Vann, educator and owner of Vann Studio Salon Spa, George Alderete, Global Color Ambassador Keune Haircosmetics, North America, and Lupe Voss, co-founder/global educator at Color Space, will share their approaches to color formulations, techniques and industry trends, showing how they enhance salon services, attract more clients and ensure exceptional results.
“Everything on our stage all weekend is going to be about overcoming a challenge or creating more business,” says Sheila Wilson, ICA president. “These colorists will share how they overcome specific challenges in the color chair.”
Colorful Language
Voss says, “The Color Collaboration presentation will provide insights into current industry trends and innovative hair color placement techniques/formulas that can be applied in the salon.”
ICA members will walk away reinvigorated by Voss, Vann and Alderete’s presentation and inspired to elevate their craft.
“The goal is to foster a unified language within the industry, enhancing communication and collaboration among salon owners and their colorists,” Voss adds.
Vann says her journey as a colorist is always evolving.
“It requires constant updating to make the right choices every time: for the environment, the economics of production processes, and people,” she says. “This is why I am constantly updating my techniques behind the chair and in my collections.”
For fall, Vann says color is trending towards deep, rich warm tones with many layers of depth.
“I created my new collection, ‘Reconceptualize,” with color melting, using the warm tones from our high lift series as my lightest color, melted into my controlled levels and tones of my permanent color creating a monochromatic color palette.
“This technique of color melting does not use materials to separate the hair for the different colors, but braids and ponytails to melt the colors together.”
Balayage serves as the inspiration for Alderete’s approach to transitioning clients from season to season.
“Adapting to hair color and style changes can be crucial for maintaining long-lasting client relationships,” he says. “By combining the timeless artistry of balayage with my own, innovative methods, it is easy and practical to create looks that evolve naturally with each season.”
Alderete sees 2025 hair color trends in the salon moving towards more lived-in and less contrived.
“This gives salon guests more freedom to change their color tones from season to season or simply because of a change in mood and fashion choices,” he says.
Voss also has her eye on the season’s trends.
“For Fall 2024, inspiration is all about embracing burnt oranges and rich earth tones that capture the essence of autumnal landscapes,” she says. “The focus shifts to showcasing individuality, highlighting personal style, and expressing who you are at your core. The technique is all about using colors and designs that reflect the personality you want the world to see, blending classic autumn hues with unique, personalized twists.”
