Intercoiffure America/Canada faces a unique opportunity to lead a dialogue among colorists. With the founding of the Hair Color Council, Intercoiffure will set an example of best practices and creative artistry that will improve the entire industry.
The Hair Color Council will create an annual collection of defining new color trends. This collection will represent the Council’s belief in the importance of client-driven color and style.
As the industry’s elite, Intercoiffure’s members are well positioned to:
• Provide non-denominational master-level education in hair color education
• Advocate for improved business practices; including in-house training programs
• Define newsworthy trends in color and style
• Facilitate networking and fellowship among colorists
• Work with manufacturer partners to promote the industry
The Hair Color Council will emphasize salon-friendly concepts in a way that is smart, modern and interesting. Council members may expect:
• Color techniques and designs that can be used behind the chair
• Master educators, willing to coach others, and who ground their knowledge in continued work behind the chair
Educational efforts by the Hair Color Council will be marked by:
• Objective, non-brand specific information that expands the colorist’s expertise beyond the brand with which he or she works
• Scrupulous attention to accuracy and scientific fact
• Defining color as an integral part of beauty and fashion
Examples of Color Council initiatives will include:
• Promoting the concept of color specialist in the salon
• Developing and mentoring the next generation of successful colorists
• Competitions and other opportunities for colorists to present on stage
• Inviting speakers from related fields
• Regional education and networking
• Web outreach to Council members
Standards for Council membership are in development. Key criteria include:
• Must be an Intercoiffure member or represent an Intercoiffure member salon
• Minimum of 4 years of professional salon experience
• Greater than 50% of revenue generated by hair color services
• understanding of both professional and retail hair color lines
By establishing the Hair Color Council, the President and Board of Directors have shown that the association can and will change with the business climate:
• To keep its status as the industry’s pre-eminent group of salon owners
• To continue to serve as standard-bearer for industry best practices
• To continue to unite the industry’s most creative and visionary professional
